Rishi Kapoor’s sister and Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s mother-in-law Ritu Nanda breathed her last on January 14 after fighting a long battle with cancer. The 71-year-old daughter of Raj Kapoor was struggling with cancer since 2013 and was undergoing treatment in the US.
According to reports, the estimated number of people living with cancer in India are around 2.25 million, with 11,57,294 lakh cases diagnosed every year, and the number of deaths registered to be 7,84,821.
Born in Mumbai in 1948, Ritu Nanda was a brilliant member of the celebrated Kapoor family. She was the chairperson and CEO of Ritu Nanda Insurance Services (RNIS). She received the Brand and the Best Insurance Advisor of the Decade awards from the Life Insurance Corporation of India. She was entered into the Guinness Book of Records for selling 17,000 pension policies in a single day. She also managed companies like Escolife and Rimari Corporate art services.
Ritu’s brother Rishi Kapoor was also diagnosed with cancer and has recently returned to India after his treatment from the US.
With the news of her demise shared by niece Riddhima Kapoor, condolences from all corners of the industry started pouring in.
Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were also spotted at the airport, heaidng to attend Ritu Nanda’s Funeral.
Ritu Nanda’s last rites will be performed on Jan 14 at 1:30 PM at Lodhi Road cremation ground in Delhi.
