Why alcohol is a strict no for people with heart diseases?

Drinking too much alcohol can increase the level of cholesterol in the body, which is mainly responsible for blocked arteries. Alcohol also increases the blood pressure and can cause irregular heart rate. Eventually, it also leads to obesity as it increases your calorie intake. It leads to the diseases of the heart muscles called cardiomyopathy. All these conditions increase a person’s chances of heart failure, but if there’s someone who already has a history of heart disease, this can prove fatal for them. Alcohol will only aggravate these issues and cause stress to the heart.

If you are dealing with a heart disease, it is advised to switch to a healthy lifestyle. A lifestyle that includes correct diet, exercise and no smoking or drinking can eventually help you stay clear of further heart problems. Not only will quitting alcohol help you stay healthy, it will also allow you to reduce your chances of alcohol dependency which is often a problem for regular drinkers.

There are a few studies that suggest that moderate drinking, especially of wine, can help your heart stay healthy. But if you are someone with a history of heart disease, it is not the best idea to have alcohol. Good nutrition and exercise will do a way better job of ensuring your heart’s good health and thus your good health in return.
