Dr. Nawas is an MD and a Geriatrician. HappyAging met Dr. Nawas at GSICON 2018, Pune, where he spoke to us about the need for early detection of diseases in elderly.

Dr. Nawas says that geriatrics is an emerging field all over the world. The average age of people is increasing and in the future geriatric as a discipline will be in the frontline. There will be more elderly patients than younger adults.

Therefore, it has become important to know the modern medicines and comprehensive geriatrics assessment to understand about treating elderly in a better manner. It is one of the keys to identify the problem and treat a disease in elderly.

The most common disease in elderly is Dementia or degenerative disease. Every country should have a Dementia registry to identify the people of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Early detection is important for better treatment of Dementia.

Similarly, other age related issues like fall, delirium, incontinence, etc. should be taken care of in time for better results.
